In line with recent Welsh Government guidance, we will require everyone aged 18 and over when attending live events at The Princess Royal Theatre from Monday 15th November 2021 to present one of the following:

  • A valid digital NHS COVID Pass
  • Evidence of a valid ‘recovery’ PCR test
  • A paper-based letter confirming full vaccination
  • Confirmation of a valid negative lateral flow test
Failure to show the required information will result in you being turned away, as stipulated in the Welsh Government guidelines. We will be checking 100% of event attendees over the age of 18.

Paper Covid Pass - For a paper Covid pass please ring 0300 303 5667, you must be 18 and over and must had received your second job at least 5 days ago. This can take up to 10 working days to arrive.

Digital Covid Pass – For a digital Covid Pass please log in to your NHS account here

To set up the Digital Covid Pass you will need a driver’s licence or passport, plus a smart phone.


If you are unable to get a Covid Pass you can show either one of the following:

The Recovery PCR result which you will receive via text or email. (This is a positive PCR result within 180 days, individual must have completed the mandatory 10-day isolation period from the date of the result)

Confirmation of a negative lateral flow test, you can display this result via text or email.

Residents in Wales can request a paper Covid vaccination certificate from the Welsh Government by phoning 0300 303 5667 between 9am and 5pm.

It could take up to 10 working days for your certificate to arrive, so make sure you plan ahead.

You can show us proof of a recent negative lateral flow test result. The result should be from no more than 48 hours before your performance.

Just show us the official NHS email or text message confirming your negative result. Please don’t bring your physical lateral flow test stick with you – you must upload the result and show us confirmation to gain entry.  

You can order lateral flow tests for free online.

No. We will only accept NHS Covid Passes and official vaccination certificates as proof of your vaccinated status. Please follow the guidance above to get your NHS Covid Pass.

People under the age of 18 don’t currently need to show an NHS Covid Pass to come to one of our shows. If this changes, we will let customers know.

If you can’t show us official proof of either your vaccinated status or a recent negative Covid test result, we won’t be able to let you into our theatre. This is in line with Welsh Government legislation. 

If this applies to you, then please contact us before 11am on the day of the show to discuss your options. 


Yes. Unless you are medically exempt, everyone aged 11+ must still wear a face mask whilst in our theatre and communal areas in line with current Welsh Government guidance.

Masks may be removed while eating or drinking.

In line with Welsh Government guidelines we are presenting most shows without social distancing in place.

We'll still be asking everyone to remain considerate of each other at all times, and requiring masks to be worn throughout your visit.

We've put a number of measures in place to help make your return to the theatre safe and enjoyable, including enhanced cleaning and e-ticketing.

Please keep hold of your old tickets as they will still be valid for the rescheduled event date.

All agents will be communicating with their bookers as soon as they are able to but if you haven’t heard from them regarding a performance, you will need to contact them directly. 


You can book your tickets over the phone with our Box Office, giving your unique Hynt reference number upon booking.

When booking for one of our events, you can choose to receive e-tickets which are emailed to you after you've placed your order. This is free to do.

Upon arrival; skip the Box Office collection queue. Simply show your e-tickets on your mobile device to our Front of House staff at the entrance.

If you're presenting your e-ticket on a mobile phone please increase the brightness of your screen prior to showing it to our front of house staff.

These should come through within 30 minutes of your booking, if you don't receive your e-ticket within that time please let us know as soon as possible.

Yes, anyone requiring a carer can apply to become a member of the Hynt scheme, which allows for a free ticket for the carer in any participating theatre across Wales. To book a ticket using the Hynt scheme, please phone our Box Office during our opening hours.

All tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable, except in the event of a cancelled or rescheduled performance.

During weekdays the nearest parking is at the multi storey carpark which closes at 7pm (SA12 8HN). For evenings and weekends the car park adjacent to the theatre/civic centre building is open with limited spaces.

The train station is approximately a 10 minute walk away; exit the station (the Grand Hotel should be on your right) and proceed straight ahead across the concourse and on to Station Road, continue along this road (it becomes pedestrianised half way) until you reach a canopied footbridge. Walk across the footbridge to Civic Square and the theatre is ahead slightly to the right.

The bus station is approximately a 5 minute walk away through Aberafan Shopping Centre which opens on to Civic Square. There is also a taxi rank next to the bus station.

Yes, in the disabled toilet off the downstairs foyer.

Yes, there are ramps leading to the main entrances of the building.

Yes there is a lift to the circle/balcony area. Please note we do not advise using for wheelchair access, as in the event of a fire or similar the lifts shut down.

There are toilets on both floors to the right ahead of the auditorium space, including a disabled toilet downstairs.

We have toilets located on all levels of The Princess Royal Theatre and our baby changing facilities and accessible toilets are located on the ground floor in the theatre entrance foyer.

Yes, please contact our Box Office directly if you wish to make a reservation.

Reserved seats may be released after 14 days from the reservation being placed if we have received no confirmation or payment from you. Seats may need to be released sooner than this, subject to availability.

There is no charge for children aged 2 years and under* but please inform our box office staff when you are booking your tickets.

*Selected shows may have their own age policy that we must abide by, we will make this clear on our website should this instance occur.

A ticket levy is added to ticket purchases in order to cover the administration costs and overheads associated with each ticket sale.

We understand that arriving late is sometimes unavoidable. Upon arrival please make yourself known to a member of staff who will advise you when to enter the theatre.

Please be aware that some shows do not allow latecomers.

If we can get you into the theatre during a late comer point, please be aware that the theatre may be in total darkness.

There are several eating places nearby. During the day, Aberafan Shopping Centre just across the square from the theatre has a few places including Costa Coffee and Baristas café. We can also suggest Blanco’s Hotel & restaurant (SA12 6NT), La Memo restaurant (SA13 1NU), the Lord Caradoc pub/restaurant (SA13 1NW), and The Shah Tandoori (SA13 1NN) which are also open in the evenings.

Yes, we do accept card payments on the bar but we do not accept American Express.

No, our Terms and Conditions state that unless we announce otherwise, photography and filming is not permitted in the theatre once a show has started out of respect to the performers.

We do however encourage all customers to have pre-show theatre selfie and tag us on our social media pages. We’re on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
